5Quiet as a mouse and built like a Sherman tank!
By Monomer
I have been involved with outdoor ponds for over 20 years now and have gone through several different submersible pumps over the years (8 different brands + sizes) and this Apline Cyclone 3100 is hands-down the quietest of them all... it doesn't emit any sound at all once submerged (though it can be used out of water according to the manufacturer, past experience with these 'dual' purpose pumps has taught me that it will last a good deal longer underwater probably because of the cooling effect from flowing water keeping the electrical windings in the motor way cooler than air could). Anyway, twice now I managed to get a pea sized pebble just large enough to lodge into the space between the veins in the impeller of the pump and cause it to seize up tight. After many hours of pumping nothing, the motor did NOT burn up. In fact the first time this happened, when I first tried to open the cover plate and free the impeller (at this point I didn't know there was a pebble lodged in there) I ended up using screwdrivers, a mallet, and pliers and extreme force out of frustration and never damaged any of the plastic components or the impeller shaft. Turns out all that's needed to open the cover was a simple twist, doh! Funny thing is I've open other pump motors before to clean out a plugged up grating or jammed impeller and all the cover plates rotate (after screw removal) but somehow I didn't think to try rotating this one because the exterior wasn't round in shape and so I didn't recognize I was looking at the actual cover plate... doh! Once opened I could see the pebble stuck in the impeller and quickly popped it out, reassembled the unit and the pump again ran perfectly and just as quiet as ever. I am impressed!!! The ceramic impeller shaft is the thickest I've ever seen on any pump motor and the fact that the plastic parts didn't get damaged under my ham-fisted attempts to crack it open only points to the quality of materials used in this pump. This pump is powerful and moves a lot of water for the wattage used (I know because I had a Kill-A-Watt meter on it... beware some pump manufacturers do fudge their numbers), is dead quiet when submerged, has an asychronize motor design (meaning the motor is design in such a way that the direction of rotation at start-up will always be in the same direction every time thus allowing the impeller design to be tailored to that one direction making it a good deal more efficient at moving large amounts of water for the wattage used), the center of the impeller has a large opening with large gaps between the veins which means it will pass large pieces of debris through without issue (just not 1/2" diameter rocks apparently!), the cord is outrageously long at 33-foot and quite beefy gauge-wise. I've had it running for almost two years now so I can't speak to its durability but if looks, design, part quality, smooth quiet operation are any indication, I'll bet this pump lasts me many more years beyond the 3-year warranty it comes with (and the particular seller I purchased the pump from actually added another year of their own warranty to it for free to make it a full 4-years of warranty... they must really believe in the quality of this pump I guess).Search around for the best price because I've found these Apline pumps for sale at online stores in a huge price range (some vendors literally are asking twice as much for the same pump as other vendors)... I'm actually embarassed to tell you how cheap I got my pump for and Amazon would likely ban me from posting this review if I told you, so all I'm saying here is shop around.

5Excellent pump
By Jimbo
I have been using this pump for a couple of months now and it works great. I have a 50' run from the pump to my waterfall, and this pump pushes almost double the water as my Supreme Hydrive at that distance. Plus it is less expensive than other pumps in the 7000-8000 gph range and draws less power as well.
