Every log I've tried to split has succeeded. I have tried some nasty, knotted logs and as log as you don't over pump, I've been able to split them. It it gets to the point that I might bend a pole, I stop and let it set for a minute or two and just do one or two pumps of the slower handle. If that would not succeed ( and all mine have so far) I would remove and try another position or turn log around. I Have split a lot of log with wedges and a hand sledge and this makes things so much easier.
