Great product came completely assembled ready to use. Had a family of 6 racoons living under my deck and was able to trap them all in a matter of 7 days catching two small ones at the same time. I was able to remove them safely thanks to the metal shield that covered the handle that prevented the racoons from either biting or scratching me. Easy to bait and set, even caught the neighbors cat one night although he was released safely and went right home. Sure beats spending $500.00 to $600.00 dollars to have a professional come and set the same trap only to have me call him when it goes off so he could come and take the animal to the woods. Again great highly effective product which included instructions on which baits to use to catch different animals.*****stars

My trap was delivered by FedEx less than 48 hours after I ordered it. It arrived in perfect working order. I used Google to determine that marshmallows would be my preferred bait. No smell with marshmallows and no residue.Set the trap mid afternoon. Next morning had my first racoon. Set the trap again the second night and next morning had no bait or animals. Set and baited the trap for the third night and caught a neighborhood cat. The cat left my bait as it fled so I reset the trap for the fourth night. Next morning, the bait had been stolen without springing the trap. It seems obvious that a large racoon can enter the trap and steal the bait without stepping in the trigger. For the fifth night, I baited the trap with three marshmallows, using a long dowel to position the marshmallows against the rear of the trap. One marshmallow in each rear corner, and one positioned in the center at the rear of the trap. This morning I have a very large and unhappy coon awaiting animal control.Rightly or wrongly, I have decided that the key to sucess is the positioning of the bait so as to encourage the racoon to move around in the rear of the trap. I believe that a large coon can retrieve the bait without stepping on the trigger if the bait is not positioned against the rear of the trap.Great trap, quality design and construction. Biggest problem is how to get rid of the angry racoon on weekends and holidays when animal contol isn't available.[...][...]In eighty (80) days I have captured a total of twenty-four (24) coons. Neither of my Havahart traps have suffered any damage and operate as well today as they did when first removed from the packing box.I do not trap on Friday or Saturday night because 'animal control' is not available to do pickup on Saturday o Sunday.BAIT** I use Kraft Marshmallows as bait. Marshmallows do not attract the neighborhood cats as does cat and dog food. I am generous with my bait. Typically I pitch five (5) marshmallows to the end of the trap beyond the trigger plate.Recently, on one night, I caught three raccoons in my two traps on a single night. Two young coons were caught in the 1079 and one in the 1081.

Trap itself is ok but staples used to put cage together are too wimpy and had to be replaced by hog rings(which I had) specifically on trap door hinges and lock door...First animal I caught(my wife's Siamese cat-19 lbs and not fat) trashed the factory hinges and got out of the cage...No racoon would have been held either...Not sure the cage is worth the price...Have since seen some as cheap and cheaper that were better built...
